Gardening Information- Choosing the Right Gloves
Here's some gardening information you may not know or ideas that you had not considered.
When your working in your garden you probably wear gardening gloves, for obvious reasons, such as blisters, thorns cuts etc. Have you given any thought to what style of glove will best suit your needs? For example a quality leather glove with a cloth back can protect your hands while the cloth back allows more air to cool you as you work, keeping your hands dry and comfortable. On the other hand if your working in muddy conditions you may want to have a pair of gloves with a rubber lining or rubber gloves with cotton lining for comfort.
You should use a pair of rubber gloves with no lining that extend up to your elbows when working with chemicals such as insecticides and herbicides for the simple reason that cloth liner will absorb the materials and over time you can be poisoning your self when ever you wear the gloves. When done spraying simply wash the gloves off inside and out with warm soapy water and allow to dry. They will last you a long time and if used judiciously could save you a lot of heartache.
For working with roses and general pruning you would again consider a glove that gives some protection to the arms as well as the hand as cuts and scrapes from branches and thorns are common. You may not want to use red cotton gloves as dampness could cause the dye transfer to your hands.
When planting seedlings consider fingerless cotton gloves that allow you to do the fragile work and yet have some protection from the elements for you hands.
Now that you have a comfortable pair of gloves lets think about landscaping your garden, this step will require some thought and if your just beginning your gardening you may have to do a bit of site work. Soil preparation is a must because if you don't have good soil you are limited to the kinds of plants you can grow. Conversely if you don't want to work to much on the soil have a sample analyzed to let you know the types of plants that will be happy with what you have.
